Interested in Joining Sennett Fire?

For individuals 18 years of age and older who have an interest in exploring the exciting world of firefighting and emergency medical services, we provide the required training to ensure you feel competent and confident in all the ways you serve at no cost to you. Regardless, we will be right alongside you the entire journey, offering all the support you need as you develop into a certified firefighter and contributing member.

Sennett Fire offers unique and fulfilling opportunities to volunteer and serve your community as a:

Firefighter – Train and respond to structure, vehicle, and outdoor fires, vehicle, and specialized rescues, and other emergencies or calls for service and assistance.

EMT – Care for the sick and injured, providing basic level emergency medicine.

Apparatus Operator – Drive and operate fire apparatus and associated rescue vehicles.

RAM – For young adults ages 16-18 to learn life and character skills while training to be a first responder in their community.

Our members come from all walks of life and are committed to providing professional and effective emergency services to our community. We believe you will find that joining our ranks brings personal rewards and satisfaction, while also providing you with a tremendous sense of accomplishment and pride in a job well done. It will also provide our community with a valuable service that has the potential to benefit all of us.

First responders hold one of the most coveted and fragile possessions in the palm of their hand: public trust. For this reason, we seek individuals of high moral character, trustworthiness, and integrity who have a sincere desire to selflessly serve others with compassion and respect during their most vulnerable moments. Thus, the process to become a member of Sennett Fire includes a variety of checks and balances to ensure all our members possess and maintain the highest level of professionalism. We think you’ll agree these are the traits you’d be looking for in the individuals that come to rescue you and your family in your time of need.

These steps outline the general process for acceptance and progression as a contributing member of Sennett Fire:

  • Complete and Return the Application Packet - Includes SFD application and background check. These can be dropped off to either Station in person or email them to volunteer@sennettfire.com.
  • Interview - Participate in an interview with Executive Committee
  • Observation Period - If your application is approved by the Department and Board of Fire Commissioners, complete an observation period and introductory training
  • Orientation - Attend orientation and begin as a probationary member

Our firefighters and EMS providers work under the supervision of our chiefs and officers and are expected to function effectively as part of a highly trained team. They are also expected to perform their duties under adverse and physically demanding conditions that may pose a high risk of personal injury or exposure to a variety of hazardous conditions.

All firefighters are required to attend regularly scheduled training to maintain the high level of knowledge, skill and ability necessary to function safely and effectively as a firefighter in accordance with state law, local protocols, and department standard operating guidelines.

The performance of our volunteer firefighters and EMS providers is continuously evaluated by the officers for general knowledge, skill proficiency, and ability to work as part of a team. Any opportunities for growth are addressed through coaching, mentoring and remedial training.

Sennett Fire offers a lot of great reasons to serve but the expectations are both significant and achievable. Once you’re accepted as a probationary member, you are expected to:

  • Complete initial fire training, EMS training or both
  • Continued professional development through in-house, county, state, and national training opportunities
  • Complete apparatus & equipment checks
  • Answer alarms and respond to emergency calls and requests for assistance
  • Continued training
  • House chores

What We Expect of Each Other

Our service is one that calls on its members to perform hot, sweaty, dirty, strenuous work, often in uncertain and hazardous environments.

Specifically, we are seeking women and men from all backgrounds and walks of life who are team players and who:
